Since its launch in 2019 on YouTube’s premium channel, “Wayne” has proven to be the ultimate underdog, both on and off screen. Wayne (Mark McKenna), a furious teenager, joins his girlfriend Del (Ciara Bravo) on a brutal road trip to recover his father’s missing Pontiac Trans-Am. A chaotic, vulgar adventure that feels like someone threw a John Green and ‘Dirty Harry’ novel into a blender – and viewers devoured it! The problem was never a lack of supporters. Instead, when YouTube chose to leave the scripted originals sector, “Wayne” was forced to live on the streets.

Then, in November 2020, Amazon Prime bought the streaming rights for season 1 of “Wayne”, giving the show a new lease of life. Since then, the show has grown in popularity, with more people finding Wayne and Del’s breathtaking road trip journey, and those same fans begging for more. While “Wayne” hasn’t been formally renewed for a second season by Amazon, it hasn’t been canceled either, which is bad.

As a result, the critically acclaimed adolescent drama, which currently has an impeccable 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is on hold. Despite Amazon having yet to buy a second season of “Wayne,” the show’s creator, Shawn Simmons, has high hopes for the series. Read on to find out what we know so far about a potential “Wayne” Season 2!

Wayne Season 2 Release Date

There is currently no information on when a possible season 2 of “Wayne” would premiere, as the show has not yet been renewed. Even if Amazon buys another season, viewers would probably have to wait a long time for new episodes. The cast has been working on several projects since Season 1 came out in 2019.

For example, Mark McKenna has been cast in the original Peacock series “One of Us Is Lying,” which is now in pre-production. Since there can be no “Wayne” without Wayne, a second season will have to wait until the young actor’s schedule becomes available. Assuming “One of Us Is Lying” ends this year, McKenna could potentially begin filming season 2 of “Wayne” in the second half of 2021, with the next season set to be released in the summer of 2022 at the most.

That is, assuming Amazon buys a second season before McKenna and the rest of the actors move on to other projects.

What would be the plot of Wayne Season 2?

“Wayne” is a personal story for Simmons as it is set in his hometown of Brockton, Massachusetts. As a result, despite still waiting for word on whether Amazon wants to continue the program or not, he has already written the season opener and mapped out the rest of the season. The series creator revealed what’s next for Wayne and Del in a November 2020 interview with Inverse.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to say Wayne is in juvenile detention,” Simmons noted. “Del is in a position I won’t get into, but the whole season is about Wayne trying to go straight, win back Del and find the peace he deserves.”

Mark McKenna, for example, would love to see Season 2 become a reality. “Writing for the first episode of Season 2 is arguably the best of the ‘Wayne’ story I’ve read,” he told the showrunner, according to Inverse. “It would just… be extraordinarily beautiful if I could make it.”

Despite the fact that “Wayne” hasn’t aired any new episodes since 2019, viewers shouldn’t write off this daring sitcom just yet. If any show can beat the odds and make a comeback after such a long absence, it’s ‘Wayne’.

Cast of Wayne Season 2

Wayne wouldn’t be the same without, well, Wayne, so Mark McKenna, who plays the eponymous, nunchuck-wielding, motorcycling villain with a good heart, should definitely return to lead the way in the sequel. Ciara Bravo, who portrays the feisty teen, should return on the series because of his emotions for Del, the Bonnie, and his Clyde (despite being sought after by her father and goon-esque siblings across state lines).

Wayne hasn’t killed anyone with his ultra-violent methods yet, so it seems reasonable for the rest of the cast to reunite as well. More from Del’s father, Dean Winters, and her brothers Carl and Teddy (twins Jon and Jamie Champagne), as well as those looking for Wayne, Principal Cole (Mike O’Malley), and his friend Orlando (Joshua J. Williams), as well as those on its tail, Officer Jay (James Earl) and Sgt. Stephen Geller, is expected in the second season (Stephen Kearin). However, now that Wayne has been captured and returned to Brockton, it’s unknown if we’ll see more of his rivals in Ocala, such as Reggie (Francesco Antonio), Calvin (Kirk Ward), or perhaps his mother (Michelle Watkins). We believe there is still more fighting to be done in that car’s region, especially if Wayne can’t take it north as expected.

Wayne ratings and reviews

When the program switched to Amazon Prime, it attracted a much larger audience and gained a lot of popularity.

The program received a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as rave reviews from fans and reviewers alike.

Based on all reviews, the program scored an average of 8 out of 10.

One viewer’s comment says, “It’s a tastefully brutal series.”

Wayne is a home run hitter. Many people have compared Wayne and Del to Bonnie and Clyde.

However, you have to agree that the protagonists have a more compelling sense of purpose and justification for their frenzy.

It is as if there is order in the midst of chaos. IndieWire’s Ben Travers rated the performance an A- for excellent rendering.

He stated, “Wayne may be familiar with other stories, such as Bonnie and Clyde. However, Simmons is a smart, engaging and all in all wonderful new series that carves its own route on the icy roads of America’s East Coast.”

Wayne and Del ride their dirt bike all the way to Ocala, Florida, in the series.

They are looking for the Pontiac TransAm. They encounter different kinds of difficulties during the journey and have to fight their way out.

Once they run into a gang of kids during spring break and are mugged without money.

Wayne decides to work and Del sells her treasures for money. Even in his new job, Wayne encounters a manager who wants to illegally deport employees.

Wayne, the benefactor who cannot stand injustice, gradually turns into a vigilante who saves others while also building a criminal record.
