Toilet-bound Hanako-kun is an anime series released in 2020 that combines comedy and supernatural elements. The anime was created by the Lerche studio, which we know from beloved anime like Astra lost in space and Datum, and was directed by Masaomi Andō in the first season. With his other name, Jibaku Shonen Hanako-kuno originally premiered from January 9, 2020 to March 26, 2020 on TBS, SUN, CBC, BS-TBS. Thanks to Funimation‘s license, and Hulu TV‘s broadcast, it attracted viewers from all over the world. After the series made a season finale with the episode “The Little Mermaid,” fans began to wonder about the next season’s status and the Publication date from the 2nd season of the anime series. We’ve gathered what we know so far about the series and the news about the second season. So far, the anime’s first season has received a lot of positive reviews from most viewers, and many fans are already hoping for a second season. It is also one of the best anime shows of the season, according to many anime viewers. So, will there be one second season from the anime?
What is the plot of toilet-bound Hanako-kun?
At the Koname Academy, several rumors circulate about Hanako-san, one of the seven mysteries of the school. Hanako-san, who has settled in the third toilet room of the girls’ room on the third floor of the old school building, fulfills the summons when someone calls him. Yashiro Nene, a high school freshman whose mind is full of romantic dreams, also steps into this haunted toilet. As a result of the events, he becomes Nene Hanako’s assistant and tries to balance the spiritual and physical world with him.
In the past, Lerche Studio gave us great anime like ‘Given’ and ‘Kanata no Astra. With the new anime adaptation ‘Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun’, the studio gives us another epic show with impeccable animation, an enticing story and some unforgettable cute characters. Although it started out as a comedy anime initially limited to a high school, it contains a lot of secrets and some dark happenings in depth.
As the season progresses and more into the underlying mysteries of the school, it turns into a masterful horror anime. So far it has clearly reached its true potential and we hope it will get even better in season two. In the first season, the characters are introduced, but no one’s inner world descends. The events are also a mystery. The series is getting deeper with a possible second season.
Will there be a second season of Toilet-bound Hanako-kun?
At the time of writing, from November 22, 2021Toilet-bound Hanako-kun hasn’t been yet renewed for a second season† Neither Manga publisher Square Enix nor animation studio Lerche have confirmed a new season. We can only speculate now. We can look at the popularity and adequacy of the source material to see if the anime gets a second season. There doesn’t seem to be a problem in terms of popularity and the ratings of the series are adequate. Everything was good except the disc sales. The anime’s disc sales were around 1500. Judging by the disc sales alone, it doesn’t seem successful, but we can’t forget about the exclusive distributors. The anime is also very popular in Japan and is distributed by many exclusive distributors. (D Anime Store, Amazon Prime Video, U-Next, Netflix) The fact that these distributors publish the anime means extra profit in addition to the disc sales. Therefore, the second season looks promising in many ways. According to the Myanimelist, the series was ranked 391st in terms of popularity and this ranking is enough for a second season. So what about? manga†
Manga status of the anime
As we mentioned at the beginning of our article, the anime is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Iro Aida. The manga series, which was published in 2014, is published in Japan by Square Enix. Yen Press publishes the English translation of the series. The good news is that the manga is still going on. Sales of the manga series seem strong and the cumulative circulation has already exceeded 6 million. The last part of the manga, which consists of 16 parts in total, has not yet been translated into English, but was published in Japan on April 27, 2021. In the first season of the anime, only the first 7 parts in it were adapted. So there is plenty of source material to create new seasons. It looks like the manga won’t be an obstacle.

When is the season 2 release date?
The second season of the anime has not yet been confirmed. We speculated about a second season, while the official channels are silent about it. It seems that a large audience is waiting for the second season of the anime. The series is also a hit in Japan with its anime and manga. While it has not been successful in disc sales, it has to reckon with the general decline in disc sales in recent years. If there is an extension for the new season soon, a production run of about a year will be needed. Given all this, a new season doesn’t seem possible sooner 2023† Stay tuned.
