Mark Warburton was pleased with QPR’s “ugly” victory against Derby County on Easter Monday.

The R’s defeated the Rams 1-0 at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium courtesy of a Luke Amos strike one minute from time.

Warburton said: “It feels good to pick up four points from two games and, in a bizarre way, I am pleased to see us win ugly in the second half.

“We were good in the first half, we controlled it and we created chances that we should have taken. We moved the ball well and looked a good team.

“We knew Derby were going to commit everything they had to avoid relegation. They have got good players, they were brave and they got on the ball.

“We thought we could hit them in the second half on the counter and that proved to be the case. They were always going to commit numbers forward as the game wore on. The counter worked, Luke took his goal well and it was a really important three points.

“That was very pleasing [keeping a clean sheet], all credit to the centre-halves, Jimmy Dunne and Dion Sanderson, who got a lot of first contacts, headers and blocks in the second half.

“Sam McCallum and Moses Odubajo did very well, and all credit to Ossie Kakay when he came on.

“The boys deserve a lot of credit to win ugly against a team with a real focus and a sole aim of winning the game. The players need a couple of days now to recharge ahead of a big game at Stoke.”
