SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Navy on Monday identified a sailor who died aboard an aircraft carrier in Southern California.

Information systems technician 2nd Class Darren Collins, 22, died Sunday morning when the USS Carl Vinson docked at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, the Navy said.
The cause of his death was being investigated, but there was no evidence of suicide or malicious intent, a Navy statement said.
Collins was a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who joined the Navy in 2019. He attended Information Warfare Training in Pensacola, Florida, before enlisting aboard the Carl Vinson in October 2020, the Navy said.
“My deepest condolences go out to the Collins family at this time of tragic loss,” the carrier’s commander, Captain P. Scott Miller, said in the statement. “As shipmates, we mourn the untimely passing of a talented young man.”
Carl Vinson’s psychologist, chaplains and a consultant provide support services to the crew, the Navy said.
