Vladimir Putin threatened to pat the West, warning that retaliation is futile and that the worst is yet to come in Ukraine. In his speech, the Russian president challenged Western allies to defeat Russia “on the battlefield” as his invasion enters its fifth month. “The West wants to fight us to the last Ukrainian,” Putin said during a meeting with Russia’s top government officials. ‘Let them try. Everyone should know that for the most part we haven’t even started anything serious yet. At the same time, we are not refusing to conduct peace negotiations, but those who refuse should know that it will be more difficult to reach an agreement with us,” he boasted. Despite Putin’s harsh talk, Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov announced that Russian forces are pausing in Ukraine to rest and regain their combat capabilities.
