In addition to voice roles, he has had a few film projects and is also a regular figure in television programs.

Career start

Bumper aspired to become a successful actor at a young age, and after completing his education, he began his pursuit of professional work on stage. Even at a young age, he worked on several productions before breaking into the 1983 television movie ‘Cocaine and Blue Eyes’ alongside OJ Simpson, playing his character’s son. At that point, Simpson had not yet become involved in the crime that defined his life.

During the 1980s, more opportunities came for Bumper and he appeared as a guest on various programs such as “The Jeffersons”, “Punky Brewster” and “Family Matters”. He also played the character Leon in “Night court‘, airing on NBC, follows the life of a young judge who works the night shift of a Manhattan municipal court; the show was largely successful during its eight-year run. Around the same time, he found his first opportunities in voice acting, starting with the cartoons “The Flintstone Kids” portraying Philo Quartz.

The 1990s – Continued acting

As Robinson’s career progressed, more voice acting opportunities presented themselves, doing voice work for popular cartoons such as “Scooby-Doo”. He also appeared in live action shows such as ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ before working on the television movie ‘Generation X’ portraying the mutant Mondo. Based on the Marvel series of the same name, the film focuses on a young group of mutants who branch off from the X-Men. He then made guest appearances on shows “Touched by an Angel”, “Sister, Sister” and “The Client”.

He gained a bit of fame with numerous positive reviews for his performance in the miniseries “The Jacksons: An American Dream”, in which he portrayed Jackie Jackson. It aired on ABC, and as the name implies, it focused on the well-known Jackson family in show business and their time as the successful group The Jackson 5, which included Michael Jackson and Janet. He was then cast in the TV sitcom “A Different World”, before landing a recurring role in “Living Single”, which aired on Fox, following the lives of friends living in Brooklyn.

In 2003, he became part of the cast of the animated show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, voicing the character of James and Clifford Weaver, working on 11 episodes. Other shows he had over the years included ‘The Game’, ‘CSI: NY’ and ‘Bones’.

In this decade, he took a step towards more voice acting projects as he started getting consistent work, voicing characters for “Futurama” and “Pinky and the Brain”, as well as in the Disney movie “Brother Bear”, which tells of a boy who has turned into a bear and must adjust to this new life as he searches for a way to return to his human form. He also became a featured voice in “Transformers: Animated”, voicing the Autobot Bumblebee, and characters, Blackout and Blitzwing.

Recent projects

In recent years, Bumper has fully embraced his career in voice acting, and while he still takes on a few live action projects, his job mainly consists of working on various animated shows or video games.

From 2013 to 2019, he provided the voice of the Human Cannonball and Falcon for the animated series “Avengers Assemble” broadcast on Disney XD. While working on the show, he had several other projects like “Ultimate Spider-Man”, “Marvel Future Avengers”, and “Lost in Oz”. The movie won numerous awards and was even considered for the prestigious Game of the Year title. He also worked on the game “Rage 2”, voicing several characters in the 2011 sequel to Rage made by Bethesda Softworks.
