Early life, family, educational background

American television, film and theater actor Kevin Chamberlin, was born on November 25, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He grew up in Moorestown, New Jersey after his family moved there when he was nine years old. He played Huck Finn in his elementary school production of Tom Sawyer. After graduating from high school, he studied acting in New Brunswick, New Jersey at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of Arts, graduating in 1985 with a BFA in acting.

In 1992, he was the understudy to both Sy Benson and Herb Lee in Broadway’s “My Favorite Year.” He played Feargus on Broadway in “Abe Lincoln in Illinois” in 1993, then replaced the original actor as Amos Hart in “Chicago” in 1996 on Broadway, and played Dimas in “Triumph of Love”.

On Broadway in 2000, he played Charlie in “Dirty Blonde” and Horton the Elephant in “Seussical”. In 2004 he starred in “West End”, in 2007 as Gaetano Proclo in “The Ritz”, then in 2010 he played Uncle Fester in the Broadway show “The Addams Family”.

From 2018 to 2019, he played The Wizard of Oz in “Wicked” on Broadway, and Mr Mushnick in the 2019 Pasadena Playhouse production of “Little Shop of Horrors” alongside Amber Riley, George Salazar, Matthew Wilkas and Mj Rodriguez.

He was nominated for and won two Drama Desk Awards in 2000 – one for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for ‘Seussical’ and another for Outstanding Actor in the play ‘Dirty Blonde’. That same year, he was nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for ‘Dirty Blonde’, but did not win.

He was nominated again for a Tony Award in 2001 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for ‘Seussical’. In 2010, he was nominated for Drama Desk Award’s Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for “The Addams Family”, and for the same role he was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, and for a Tony Award in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical category.

Kevin is one of the few actors nominated for three of the four Tony Award acting categories.

In a 2018 interview with Broadwaybox.com, he compared his roles as Uncle Fester and Horton, saying, “They’re actually very similar because they’re incredibly childlike… full of joy. I always joke… that the name of my autobiography will be Find the Joy.”

Television series

In 1991, he guest-starred on “Reading Rainbow” as Ted the Grateful Head, and had a recurring role as Audubon Poulet in “Ghostwriter” in 1994. In 2001, he guest-starred in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” as Roger Berry in the episode “Redemption.

From 2001 to 2002, he played Mr. Bronkowski in “Ed,” and in 2003 guest-starred in “Without a Trace,” and as a man in the waiting room in “Frasier.” In 2005, he played the recurring role of Momma in ‘Sex, Love & Secrets’. One of his most famous roles was that of butler, Bertram Winkle in the Disney Channel Original Series “Jessie” from 2011 to 2015, alongside Debby Ryan, Cameron Boyce and Peyton List.

In 2015, he made a guest appearance as Monty in “Modern Family”, as Frank in the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie” in 2017, and played Mr Lesko in two episodes of the Netflix series “A Series of Unfortunate Events” in 2018.

Movies

He was the avid NYPD expert on bomb defusing, Charles Weiss in “Die Hard with a Vengeance” in 1995. In 2001, he played Wayne in “Herman USA”, Frank the Bouncer in “Road to Perdition” from 2002, in 2004’s “Suspect Zero” with Aaron Eckhart as Harold Speck, and as Mr. Scanlon in “Christmas with the Kranks” with Tim Allen.

In 2006, he had a supporting role of New York police officer Marty in “Lucky Number Slevin” with Josh Hartnett. On July 19, 2013, the Disney Channel Original and Jeffrey Hornaday directed movie “Teen Beach Movie” aired – Kevin played Dr. Fusion in the film, starring Maia Mitchell, Ross Lynch, Grace Phipps, Barry Bostwick, and Steve Valentine. In 2017, he voiced Gravel in “The Emoji Movie”, and in 2019 Uncle Tony in “Wonder Park”.

Private life

Kevin is openly gay and proudly supported marriage equality and gay rights on his social media in 2012. Since 2012, he has also been fighting against gay violence in America. He is private about his personal life, but on July 16, 2015, it was revealed that he is married. He tweeted a comment to a fan, ‘…yes, I’m happily married.’ It is not known whether they are still married or have children together. He has posted photos of his dog, Samantha, on social media. On June 15, 2019, he was an online celebrity death on various social media sites. According to the hoax, he died of a heart attack.
