Bob Menery grew up in a lower-middle-class neighborhood in Massachusetts
Menery is the youngest of three children of Mark and Patty Menery. Golden-voiced man Bob Menery was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 10, 1987.
His parents raised him and his siblings in a lower-middle-class neighborhood. Menery’s father was an insurance salesman.
The wings lover once revealed that his father always emphasized to him that the most important thing is to get up early, come in first and leave last.
Menery studied at a Catholic school
When he was young, Menenry’s family moved to North Andover. And for the next nine years, the Massachusetts native would study at St. Micahel’s Catholic School. There, he reportedly had an occasional run-in with a nun.
During school, he also spent most of his time in detention. After Catholic school, Bob attended North Andover High School.
In high school he was very involved in sports.
How did Bob Menery start his career as a commentator?
Bob developed his skill as commentary after the ’04 series, especially when the Sox won the World Series. That season, he would reject the games’ original commentary and throw in his own commentary while his friends would listen.
He always had a talent for entertaining people. Because of his love of performing, Bob moved to New York at the age of 23 and attended film school there; though it’s unclear if it was a university or just an institution or if he ever graduated. Although it is believed that he also studied at the University of North Carolina.
After that, the beer lovers moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. During his time on the West Coast, however, he got into the habit of partying obsessively.
Meanwhile, he started working as a golf caddy.
Menery broke down early in his career and slept in his car
Menery was still working as a caddy when at one point he had $700 overdrafted in his account. He soon had no place to live, after which he moved into his car and stayed there for about three months.
During this time, he also became a drug addict. Apparently, one of the reasons Bob succumbed to cocaine addiction was that he had built up a strong work ethic during his time as a golf caddy. The Ripper Magoos podcast host says he was discouraged at the time.
At one point, while Bob was living in his car, he took crystal meth, which caused him to wander like crazy around the CVS gas station at night.
Soon the police came and escorted him to the hospital and after that Menery went to his family. A few days later, Bob’s brother-in-law contacted him and they headed to a nearby liquor store for a job for the future voice-over sportscaster.
Along the way, Menery’s brother-in-law briefed him on how his rapper and YouTube friend, Mike Constantino, was looking for an extra to appear in one of his music videos.
The party that changed Bob Menery’s life
Menery accepted the aforementioned video offer from Mike and he did the shoot, but he had to attend the afterparty at Mike’s house that night. Among the guests was David Justin, a crypto expert and also a commentator.
Justin happened to meet Bob on the couch and when he heard him talk, the analyst was impressed. He grabbed his phone and started recording Menery and later Justin uploaded the archive to BroBible.
And before Menery knew it, he had gone viral. By 2 a.m., the night Justin aired Bob’s recording, the ex-ESPN senior host had received 10,000 followers and some 300 missed calls.
However, Menery was unable to attend the talks as he was exhausted from the party and Mike’s shoot.
The next morning it was like, ‘What the hell is going on here? Who died? Did I get the job at Larry’s? What is happening?’ And I’ve experienced first-hand what it’s like to go viral in the blink of an eye.”
said the sports center host as he talked about that particular moment with Ed Mylett in September 2020.
After going viral, Bob would go on to do his schtick with big names like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Sunday Night Football. He soon became the senior anchor for ESPN’s SportsCenter.
Bob, who is celebrating his birthday on June 10, went on to become an official voiceover spokesperson for some national wings and beer chain brands. Sometime after that, he and the other Youtubers team, the Nelk Boys, would have lunch with their popular podcast; a collaboration, fully shipped in August 2021.
Menery had joined the Full Send podcast through his friendship with UFC boss Dana White and YouTuber The Nelk Boys. The podcast would become a hit that would surpass over a million and a half subscribers and would interview guests such as Donald Trump, Shaq, Elon Musk, Mark Cuban and many more.
However, he was released from the Nelk Boys squad and the Full Send podcast in the summer of 2022.
It has clearly never come to light whether he was fired or whether the now 35-year-old himself resigned or why the partnership broke up in the first place. But there were still various speculations.
After Full Send Podcast ended his contract, Menery announced that he would be launching Ripper Magoos. He also mentioned his upcoming merch at the time.
The bully hater also spoke of the then approaching seltzer — his venture into an energy drink. However, he said it wouldn’t be alcoholic. Now for the podcast, he’s more focused on Ripper Magoo and Zapped; the first, which is live on Apple.
