Carlo Gambino Childhood and Early Life:
On August 24, 1902, Carlo Gambino was born in Palermo, Sicily, into a family that belonged to the “Honored Society,” a more eloquent term for a loose confederation of organized criminals. Carlo has Italian nationality. There is no detailed information about Carlo’s relatives. While Carlo was growing up, President Benito Mussolini drove most of the Mafia out of the country. This created a higher class of criminals. Carlo took advantage of the organized structure and at the age of 19 he was initiated into the ‘Cosa Nostra’, indicating that he was a ‘made man’. He got the credit because he started killing people when he was a teenager.
Carlo also joined the ‘Young Turks’, a gang of many Italian-Jewish mobsters, including Frank Scalice, Vito Genovese and Joe Adonis. The majority of these gangsters became powerful crime bosses later in life. Carlo died of a heart attack on October 15, 1976. When he died, he was 74 years old.
Carlo Gambino Professional Life and Career
Carlo got involved in petty crimes like gambling, robbery and robbery as a member of the ‘Young Turks’. During “Prohibition” in the early 1920s, he also became involved in smuggling. By the mid-1920s, Carlo had become a feared gangster. Compared to the traditional mafia rulers, the ‘Young Turks’ had a very different vision of how organized crime would develop in the future. Although the old Mafia bosses were too proud of their Italian background, they believed that if they wanted to do business in peace, they had to form alliances with more Mafia factions. Carlo flourished in the new mafia system because it was better organized and less violent. He continued to engage in illegal activities such as gambling and extortion while developing several additional schemes to make a quick buck. He once made a significant amount of money illegally by selling World War II distribution stamps on the black market. Gambino was an employee of Albert Anastasia and had a very quiet criminal lifestyle. By the late 1950s, however, his boss had developed a serious eccentricity. He had turned violent to become extremely dangerous to the illegal home.
In 1957 Carlo emerged as the new godfather of the family as there was no other candidate. Under his leadership, the Gambino family increased its dominance throughout the country and amassed enormous wealth. Carlo earned hundreds of millions of dollars annually, further cementing his position and elevating him to the status of one of the most powerful crime lords in the entire country.
