James Worthy Biography
James Worthy was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, on February 27, 1961. While playing for the school, his team performed well in the state championship and the team was able to reach the championship thanks to his 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per match. James attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after high school. In his first year, however, he broke his ankle. During his sophomore year, he was a key member of that school’s NCAA runner-up team in 1981, alongside Al Wood and Sam Perkins.
He was a junior striker and top scorer on Tar Heels’ NCAA championship team, which included such legendary NBA players as Sam Perkins and freshman Michael Jordan. James was able to dominate the 1982 championship game against the Georgetown Hoyas. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament.
