Jorge Perez was born on October 17, 1949 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents are Cubans of Spanish descent. Despite being born in Argentina, Perez grew up in Colombia before moving to Miami in 1968.
His father ran a pharmaceutical company that had been nationalized by the Cuban government. He graduated from Long Island University CW Post Campus with a bachelor’s degree in economics and the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in urban planning.
