Marco Rubio Biography
Marco Antonio Rubio was born in Miami, Florida on May 28, 1971. He was born the son of Mario Rubio Reina, his father, and Orioles Rubio, his mother. His parents were Cuban immigrants who were not citizens of the United States. They became citizens of the United States when Marco was almost nineteen years old.
Marco’s parents came to America to escape the violent crimes that were taking place in Cuba. They immigrated to the United States shortly before Fidel Castro came to power. His mother visited Cuba at least four times after Castro took power.
Marco grew up in a Roman Catholic family with three siblings. To provide for their family, his father worked as a bartender at Sam’s Town Hotel and his mother as a housekeeper at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino.
Rubio graduated from South Miami Senior High School. He was a smart student who loved sports. He excelled at American Football and represented his high school. He was awarded a one-year football scholarship to Tarkio College in Missouri. He then received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida.

He surprised everyone by beating his opponents, Charlie Crist, an independent, and Kendrick Meek, a Democrat.
