Youth and education

Phil grew up in the US with his brother Alan Swift, who is also a businessman and who received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston. The two brothers were raised by their father, who was a lawyer, and their mother, who worked as a secretary at a local firm.

Phil became interested in law while attending elementary school because he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, but he became athletic when he enrolled in a high school, where he played football and tennis. After graduating in 1979, he enrolled at the University of Houston (same as his brother), received his bachelor’s degree in 1983 and ventured into business.

Career as a businessman

Phil worked in the corporate world for over 30 years before he and his brother launched their company Swift Response, LLC on February 28, 2011.

It currently employs more than 100 people, led by Phil, the company’s CEO, and specializes in marketing products through TV commercials, Internet advertising and direct selling, among other things. Some of the products the company sells are Flex Seal, Flex Tape and Flex Paste.

The company became popular mainly because Phil is the spokesperson and because he has appeared in almost all of its commercials, unlike his brother, who does not show his face in front of the camera.

Phil’s ideas for commercials have brought him fame on the Internet, such as cutting a boat in half and then reattaching it with Flex Tape, or gluing bricks with Flex Glue to show how much weight it can handle. Popular YouTuber JonTron has created a video about Flex Tape entitled “Waterproofing My Life With FLEX TAPE” which has become a huge hit and remains his most watched video to this day; while his fans asked for more, he went on to create the sequel “Flex Tape II: The Flexening”, inviting Phil to star in it.

In 2013, Phil began sponsoring the JD Motorsports team that competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Some of the drivers the company sponsored included Ross Chastain and Jeffrey Earnhardt. In 2017, Garrett Smithley crashed his car and Flex Tape was used to fix it.
