We need to look at two factors to determine whether there will be an 86 Season 2 in 2022 and the likely Eighty Six Season 2 release date.
The first factor is the source material and the second is how much profit the first season made.

86 Season 2 Light Novel & Manga
For the 86 anime, the source material is a light novel.
How many parts of 86 are there? As of January 2022, there will be ten light new volumes of 86. There is also a manga adaptation, a spin-off manga series, and a prequel manga.

How well did the 86 Blu-ray sell? The 86 Blu-ray sold approximately 2,000 copies per disc. That’s a decent number for 2021, even though I was hoping it would be at least 3,000.
2,000 isn’t bad, and while Blu-ray sales aren’t that big of a deal these days, they help with the odds of a new season.
How well does the 86 light novel sell? 86 Volume 9 sold approximately 20,000 copies, and 86 Volume 10 sold approximately 18,000.
The 86 light novel is selling reasonably well, but I’m curious how well volume 11 does as it should show the full anime boost.
How many copies does 86 have in print? As of 2021-06-01, the Eighty Six series had 1,300,000 copies in print.
It is not in the top 200 most popular light novel series of all time.
How much merchandise is there for 86? There are about 15 figurines and models, which is not a low number. More than 200 pieces of merch have also been made for this series so far.
Some characters are cute, like this one Mini Lena and this Lena figure† But this 86 Juggernaut (long range cannon type) model looks the coolest.
I think it’s clear by now that this series didn’t flop and earned some money†
It’s too early to tell if it’s made enough money for a second season† It will be much easier to say how well this anime is selling in the next 3 to 6 months.

86 Season 2 Release Date
As of January 2022, 86 Season 2 will not have a release date as it has not yet been confirmed. However, we should get news about the second season of 86 by the end of 2022 if it happens.
The earliest release date for 86 Season 2 is 2023.
There’s plenty of source material for a second season, and it looks like this series has sold quite well so far.
This series also seems popular on social media, and even the official Twitter account has almost 110,000 followers already.
That means streaming has made good money off it, which is critical to the possibility of a new season in 2022†
So a new season of 86 has a good chance of happening, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to be sure because the series isn’t even officially over yet as we’re missing the last two episodes.
On average it takes about two years for a run of two jobs to get another seasontherefore 2023 as a release date sounds about right.
Even if it releases in 2023, we should still get the announcement of Season 2 of 86 in 2022.
Production issues and the fact that Aniplex is on the production committee are two things to worry about for the second season of this anime.
Aniplex is looking for big hits, and why 86 made some profit, it’s not a hugely profitable series either. We’ll be able to see in the next 6 to 12 months whether this series gets a second season or not.
